i saw show food tv: 1 + 1/4 cups water and 1/2 cup rinsed quinoa…microwave 9 min on high let rest 2 min fluff up and use….

@reforest4fertility Yeah I did a 40 day water only (I took a multivitamin once a day) fast once. It stared as a 3 day fast and I kept going. The fast was for religious reasons. The detox was amazing (scary) and I lost 40 lbs. I would not recomend doing such a radical fast unless you have a good reson to do one.

Raw quinoa is coated by saponin, a compound which serves to protect the seeds from being consumed by birds due to its bitter taste. The saponin is what causes the soapy residue (sapo = soap in Latin) during rinsing. From what I’ve read, the quinoa that we get in North America has the coating removed during processing, but I’ve bought brands that frothed up during rinsing and others that didn’t. The though of eating it raw isn’t terribly appealing.

@ChickenWingChampion Yes… often times it is pre-washed!

The quinao I used came in a box and didn’t sub-up when I rinsed it off. Could it have been pre-washed?
