Fried Okra !!!

Yeah it’s kinda long, so if you have no interest in cooking okra it’s probably not for you. Hey if you think this one is long just wait for my “Giant Pot Of Soup” video which I’ll *Eventually* get posted:) I could make em shorter but I feel when you’re doing a how-to vid you need make them a little longer to explain things properly. Not that there’s all that much to explain here, LOL.

Looks pretty good…. You should try adding a little Parmesan cheese while on the paper towel and you’ll probably like that little extra bite.

Thank you so much! This is a much better okra than the crunch stuff with a little okra inside. I think they are great with anything fresh from the garden.

Finally, FINALLY! I have now seen how my grandmother cooked her okra. I never liked the breaded deep fried and that’s how most people I know fry it. Thanks. I never could figure out what she did. Maybe now I can get closer anyway. She may have had a little more oil, but I don’t think so, and I think she salted hers at first. I like the idea of waiting, though. She didn’t use eggs, either. I’m so glad you posted this. I’m going to fry my okra like this now.

I’d say you’re right. I don’t know of any sauces that would go very well with okra. I’ve been eating a lot of tomatoes with mine since I’ve had a lot of them up till recently. Sometimes I eat pork and beans with my okra too. Good luck on the book, LOL.

Bet you had alot to make for sure! You ever notice that there is not an appropriate sauce for Fried Okra. I mean fried cheese has marinara and fried mushrooms have ranch. Maybe gravy would be good? .. hahah the things i think of. Ill add it to my lists of “Missing food sauces book” LOL

I don’t think it would work nearly as well sliced longways. The slicing actually goes pretty fast sideways. Some people will have multiple pieces of okra laying on the plate at the same time when slicing sideways so will be creating several slices of okra with each slice of the knife. So I guess that might speed things up a bit. I can’t really explain it, but I just don’t think it would cook up properly if sliced lengthwise. But hey you can always experiment, LOL.

It seems like I’ve fixed it with frozen okra a time or two before….a LONG time ago. It’s of course not as good as with fresh okra but was fairly good. I’d get the frozen okra which isn’t breaded. Let it thaw out enough to where some corn meal will stick to it and fry it. I’d think if you let it thaw out too much it might be a little mushy though.

Robert (Blinkazoid), this is gonna sound retarded but I need to ask….can the okra be sliced longways? I feel so lazy when I ask this but it would save me alot of slicing and turning of tiny okras. I have always eaten and seen okra sliced sideways and never longways. Why is that?

Can this be done with Frozen Okra? They don’t sell fresh anywhere around here (Ct); at least not at the major local supermarkets.
Any ideas on preparing forzen pre-cut okra?
